Wikipedia in today's education

 In today's education, the average student goes to the internet for answers when they have a question. Many will type in the option and one of the first options that comes up is a Wikipedia link. Wikipedia can be tricky for several reasons, they can have false information but also have very useful information that is real. Most modern day schools don't allow Wikipedia as a creditable source and it honestly upsets students but like the article states, Wikipedia can have false information. This one man ruined and messed with another mans life because of how Wikipedia can be changed around by anyone. The website itself can be very useful like I stated before, but it can cause more problems then it solves. Just think twice next time before you use information from the site and believing every little thing you read on the site.

Good and Bad Procrastination

 Procrastination, the word that many college students understand, they do, and wish they didn't. There are forms of good procrastination and bad forms of course. For example, a bad example is putting off studying for a final until the day before the final. A good example would be, you have either the option to study for the next three days for a 3 credit mandatory course or study and get some homework done for a 1 credit course. You put off the work for the 1 credit course realizing the 3 credit course is more important to you. You study for the 3 credit course, take the final and then have 3 hours until your 1 credit course final where you also will have an assignment due, you try to get the assignment done and try to study for this final. This is good procrastination. You put off the lesser important work to do the more important work. In my opinion, every student has experienced this in at least one way or another. If you don't learn time management and how to handle all your work in the first place, this is a sole reason work can overcome you.

Over scheduled Students in Today's Time

  In today's society school has changed so much. I remember my 8th grade teacher looking at our class and saying, "I don't know how you guys do it, when I was in school, everything was so much simpler. We didn't have so much homework, as strong as testing and all the regulations you guys have today." This statement hit me hard because I never realized this until my 8th grade teacher said this. I continued on in school as the average high school student and went on to earn my diploma and to get accepted to SUNY Plattsburgh where I would try to live the college dream. My parents didn't make much money so to me tuition wasn't a burden for me. I believed that FASFA would cover a good portion of it. Along with the tuition there is a college bill for attending the school per semester. On my behalf I didn't have to pay for my college bill. My mother covered it for me due to me receiving a good amount of money for my Financial aid. Once in college and whilst being in high school, I worked a job, I played sports, I had chores, I had homework and had bills to pay. Life doesn't seem to get any easier as I grow up and I feel this is due to society changing and people getting so use to how school was for them. A time of day from 7-3 that you have been told for the last 12 years of public school to tell you to go to and attend and finish. I feel there is too much pressure. It also doesn't help where in today's day and age kids are so judgmental and mean. School isn't and won't be easy and it seems it's not getting any easier. In my opinion, something needs to change because it's just going to get worse and worse.

Students In College Drinking Responsibility

  Drinking is an experience that you will ironically experience in college, if you want to. Most students go to college after their senior year of high school. With most of the students being 18 years of age up to roughly the age of 21 or 22, a portion of these students didn't get to experience alcohol before college. Some parents are very protective of their kids while they are living underneath their roof. For these students that are now on their own at college need to have their first time experience with alcohol and without some experienced friends along their side, they may experiment with it wrong. People should look out for one another if they aren't friends. Students need to learn how to be responsible with drinking whilst being in college. In the end young adults need to learn and college is a great place for that but don't over due it because you may cause yourself harm.

Working through school

Kramer writes an article about students working in college. The college workload of studying and homework in reading is already time consuming. Then you add on extracurricular activities that are encouraged but can not be used as an excuse on why you didn't get your work done. Some students have part time jobs and even sports on top of that which is almost too much. I had so much less school work in high school then I have had in the time I have been in college. The workload gets crazy and you have to learn to balance your time but at some point there is basically not enough time. School is super expensive and most college kids work in the summer just to get by. We make minimum wage or a little more then minimum wage and I know with working various jobs through high school such as McDonalds, Tim Hortons, a dishwasher and delivery boy at a restaurant and by running my own business of a DJ company. Even with saving my money, I would still not have the funds I believe I should have at the end of the day, but oh well. Kids work during the school year, that can effect your grades due to not having the time to study or even enjoy life while you're young. It is definitely part of growing up because you come to realize life won't be easy and can be tough, but you have to push through it and make the best of it. 

Number of men in college

When you look at a college campus today, most colleges are made up of women. In Rodriguez's piece he sources campuses that have more woman then men, but what about the campuses that have more men than women? How about showing the number of male to female within the United States military. Or even the number of male to female who receive a job right after they graduate from high school? The number can fluctuate anywhere within these fields. I do believe more males are involved in the US military then women are and I also believe due to today's numbers of college degrees being handed to men and women that more men come out of high school receiving a job they are content with instead of putting forth extra effort to earn a degree in school and potentially get a better job to better their lives in the future.

Sex ed in Schools

Kids within the schooling system of state education are not taught proper things about sex. Such as HIV, AIDS and potential STD's. Daum speaks about how school's didn't speak properly about sexual education so people aren't fully aware of what could potentially happen to them or what could happen to someone else. In older times kids were taught that if you have sex you will catch diseases with no exceptions. People need to be taught about sex in the most appropriate way with no biased opinion so people are actually learning. AIDS, HIV and other STD's can be deadly and permanent. Why not tell kids and young adults the truth about them so they can be fully prepared?
